Consecutive Night of Unrest in the Irish Capital as Protesters Confront Refugee Hotel

On a third straight night, law enforcement in Ireland have faced an onslaught of stones and fireworks in Dublin.

A large crowd of demonstrators gathered near the entrance of a hotel sheltering asylum seekers in a western district of the metropolis.

This marks the latest night of protests at the location following an alleged sexual assault involving a 10-year-old girl near the hotel in the early hours on Monday.

A 26-year-old, whose identity cannot be disclosed due to standard procedures in sexual assault proceedings, was presented in court on Tuesday charged in relation to the reported occurrence.

Several detentions were made during the serious disorder on Tuesday night, and the national law enforcement vowed a “firm reaction” if the hostilities persisted.

Between 7pm and 8pm on the next day, hundreds of participants once more faced off against approximately forty uniformed officers.

The first officers were replaced by the public order unit outfitted with plastic shields and extra body protection after being struck from various thrown objects.

Some protesters persisted to hurl assorted items at the police members.

Destructive acts also took place around the Saggart Luas tram stop, which is adjacent to the road occupied by the protesters.

Public order units pushed the crowd away from the hotel by moving forward with their protective barriers.

A horse patrol and a dog unit were present at the location, with a air support offering overhead assistance.

One officer was impacted by pepper spray, and those involved in the disorder also attempted to block law enforcement cars using steel barriers.

While the initial protest ended without major incident, a woman in the force was injured during the subsequent clashes and subsequently discharged from medical care after attention for a foot injury.

A law enforcement car was also ignited during the previous disturbances in the week.

The senior officer, who visited the scene following the events, stated on that day that he was “determined” to see further persons brought before the courts to be accountable for their actions.

He characterized the situation as not a peaceful protest and noted, “This was violence with the purpose to damage the Citywest building and frighten those within.”

The head of government denounced the scenes of hostility, asserting there could be “no justification” for attacks on officers.

Those gathered were seen displaying symbols, chanting opposition phrases, and throwing objects.

There were also attempts to charge the police line using traditional vehicles and scrambler bikes on that day, and a police helicopter overhead was targeted with lasers.
